J’adore L’adour

I’ve eaten at L’Adour before. It’s undeniably one of Syracuse’s best restaurants – or at the very least, one of its most prestigious ones. I’ve had the odd dinner there, celebrating one thing or another, but I had yet to try the lunch menu, and I’d certainly never visited alone.

So then, on [read more ...]

Martini Haze

As of late, I’ve been living life in a blurred and altered state.
I’ve been mixing and drinking martinis with alarming frequency. I blame this on two external factors:
1. It is the holidays, and my family is visiting.2. I received a book of girlie-girl cocktail recipes as a Christmas gift.
So, anyway, I’ve been poring over [read more ...]

Swordfish: Part Two

Hazelnut-Crusted Swordfish

I thank you for the swordfish suggestions, as well as the creepy veiled compliment.
Ultimately, I decided to do things my way – marinated in a blush wine vinaigrette, quickly pan seared for a crisp crust, then baked with hazelnuts for flaky – yet moist meat.

The Most Fabulous Celebrity Chef in the World

I recently watched an episode of Giada at Home in which my favorite celebrity chef made “breakfast for dinner” as a treat for her husband and herself. She spent the afternoon whipping up waffles, an Italian-style omelet and liquor-laced espresso, and when he arrived home from work, the two of them shared dinner by [read more ...]

Searching for Swordfish

I went to Wegmans today.
I realized that it might be time to admit I have a problem when a woman at the cheese shop smiled and waved madly, and a man in produce asked me how Thursday’s artichokes ended up. (Great, thanks!)
When I reached the seafood counter, my eyes lit up. They lit [read more ...]

Sanity in a Cup of Coffee

Alternately, this post may be titled:
“How I Briefly Lost Sanity and Regained it in a Cup of Coffee and the Thought of Seasoned French Fries.”
Carry on.
I woke feeling marginally crazy this morning.

Craziness is fleeting – at least it is so for me – but it is persistent and rude while it lasts, knocking [read more ...]

Mission Accomplished

I have been meaning to blog about The Mission for forever. Each time I try a new Mexican restaurant, each time I pop by there and pick up lunch to go, each time I drive past the cute little renovated red church that houses my favorite place to eat, I think to myself: “Hmm. [read more ...]

Free Thyself

Now I know it stresses some people when I blog about weight/eating disorder issues. But it is my blog (damnit!), and my past deserves, if nothing else, a nod of acknowledgment from here to there. After all, if it weren’t for my battle with anorexia and bulimia, I doubt I’d have such a [read more ...]

Squid in the Depth of Night

Anyone who knows me knows that I eat dinner late. Quite late. While families all around me sit down to a table at 5:30, I’m washing the dishes leftover from my afternoon snack. It’s usually 9 o’clock before I even begin to think about dinner. Part of the reason for [read more ...]
